Turning science fiction into reality: flying car completes first inter-city test flight in Slovakia

Flying cars aren’t just a thing of the future, they’re a thing of now.

Klein Vision’s prototype flying car, the AirCar, has completed its first-ever inter-city test flight between the Nitra and Bratislava airports in Slovakia. The vehicle spent 35 minutes in the air.

With a click of a button, the aircraft transforms into a sports car in under three minutes. Company CEO and inventor Stean Klein and co-founder Anton Zajac flew and drove the hybrid vehicle during the run.

Following the test flight’s success, Klein says the AirCar ushers in a “new era of dual transportation vehicle.”

“It opens a new category of transportation and returns the freedom originally attributed to cars back to the individual,” Klein remarked.

“AirCar is no longer just a proof of concept; flying at 8,200ft at a speed of 100 kt (115 miles per hour), it has turned science fiction into a reality,” Zajac added.

The company is also working on a model called the AirCar Prototype 2, which will carry a 300 horsepower engine, is expected to be able to cruise at 300 kph, and have a range of 1,000 km.

The model that completed the test flight, Prototype 1, is equipped with a 160 horsepower BMW engine.
