Small car specialist Suzuki recently introduced the refreshed 2022 model of one of its most beloved models, the Swift hatchback.
The popular subcompact sports a number of changes and additions—inside and out—to the current model. Some of the improvements to the Swift’s exterior include a restyled front bumper that incorporates a new grille with a studded net pattern and a chrome garnish trim for a sportier and more upscale look.
Muscular bodylines give the Swift a powerful presence, and details like the floating roof design with pillar-mounted rear door handles make the funt-to-drive hatchback stand out.
Inside, an upgraded audio system with an 8-inch screen (up from the current 7” display) now boasts soft-touch buttons as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility; applications for better connectivity await as well.
The interior retains the timelessly clean and elegant lines and attention to detail that give a more comfortable and efficient driving experience. The cylindrical gauges evoke the motorcycle heritage of the brand while the cockpit-like center console and space-saving D-shaped steering wheel give a feeling of confidence and sportiness. The eminently easy to use rotary knobs for the airconditioning system are a welcome change from the hard-to-decipher controls of some of the more complicated climate controls of other cars.
Even though the latest Swift’s overall height has been reduced, lowering the seating positions ensured the same overall headroom as the previous model for the front seats and 23mm more vertical space and lateral space for the rear seats. The front seats have been shifted 10mm to the outside creating more space between the front-seat occupants.
For added safety and convenience, the new Swift comes with a reverse sensor and a reverse camera to ease reversing maneuvers. It is also constructed on Suzuki HEARTECT foundation, which features a high-rigidity frame that contributes to crash safety, and the frame’s continuous and smoothly curving shape with fewer joints effectively disperses impact energy in the case of a collision.
The lighter platform, made so by a reduction in the number of required reinforcements, and the abundant use of light, high-tensile steel combine to deliver a nimble and responsive dynamic performance as well as more efficient fuel economy which the Swift is renowned for.
As part of HEARTECT, the Swift’s suspension underpins a nimble and inspired driving experience, providing both the linear steering control for which the Swift is known, and ride quality that is solid, yet supple and comfortable. Tracking performance and response, for more stable cornering and high-speed stability, have been sharpened for even greater driving joy. Other standard safety include ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, as well as dual, side and curtain airbags.
The Swift is powered by a rev-happy, responsive, yet fuel-efficient 82-horsepower/113Nm 1.2-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a CVT.
The 2022 Swift GL CVT will be available at a price of Php 844,000 and will come in four different colorways: Ablaze Red Pearl, Speedy Blue Metallic, Pure White Pearl and Mineral Gray Metallic.
“The Swift is one of our products designed to be an everyday companion and a sure standout on the road,” Keiichi Suzuki, Vice President and General Manager for Automobile, Suzuki Philippines Inc, shared. “As standards rise, so should the level of our products and services. We are excited to release this improved version of the lovable Swift,” he added.
