The award-winning formula of the MG HS

For athletes, winning is an achievement that warrants hard work. It takes years – some, even decades – before athletes get their first wins. While it’s arguable that some are born with talent, most still hone their skills through rigorous training and development, further amplifying the experience needed to reach that one goal in mind: winning.

For cars, the story’s the same. And for MG Philippines, the new MG HS represents an award-winning formula – backed by years of car-making experience that date back to 1924.

The MG HS has bagged various awards in a number of countries since its introduction. In 2021, the MG’s contender bagged the 2021 Compact SUV of the Year, awarded by OneShift by Carousell Car of the Year Awards 2021 in Singapore. The MG HS impressed the publication’s editorial team with its value proposition. Further cementing its verdict was the HS’s surprising performance and refinement.

The MG HS went up against other European stalwarts in the compact SUV category, namely the SEAT Ateca, VW Tiguan, and Skoda Karoq. It also faced tough Japanese and Korean contenders such as the Mazda CX-30, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, Kia Seltos, Subaru Forester, and Toyota Harrier.

In the same year, SG CarMart Car of the Year Awards, also in Singapore, awarded the MG HS the 2021 SUV of the Year accolade. Despite being new to the first-world Asian country, the MG HS left a mark to the jurors of the award by showing that “great vehicles don’t always have to come from long-established brands.”

SG CarMart notes that the MG HS’s cabin is a “premium place to sit in” pointing out the bevy of soft-touch materials and the luxury of creative space that are both present in the cabin.

The biggest notch on the MG HS’s belt was when it was endowed with the ultimate citation in the 2020 Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) Awards – the 2020 Car of the Year. It was also heralded as the Best Sub-Compact Crossover by the same award-giving body, the biggest and most coveted in the region.

The MECOTY Awards’ board of jurors consists of 13 Middle Eastern automotive journalists who are all independent and highly experienced. They choose the winners based on tough and thoroughly written out criteria, which they use in a sophisticated yet transparent nomination and scoring methodology.

In the Philippines, The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI) has launched the new MG HS as the newest addition to its lineup. The 2022 MG HS starts at P1,158,000 for the Alpha variant, while the top-spec Trophy variant that you see here sells for P1,208,000.

With its slew of features that are found on the HS’s award-winning counterparts from the aforementioned countries, TCCCI is definitely mirroring its strategy with the MG ZS a few years ago: hard-to-beat value for money. In this case with the HS, it’s an award-winning formula that Filipino car buyers can choose to enjoy.
