Gabay Guro, the flagship education program of PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF) under its Gabay Karunungan advocacy, recently turned over the Chery Tiggo Grand Prize to 38-year-old teacher Anafel from Misamis Occidental. A first-time attendee of Gabay Guro’s virtual Grand Gathering last October 2021 which gained more than 500,000 live viewers, Anafel is also the first-ever Grand Gathering winner from Mindanao.
“It is our commitment to provide equal and better educational opportunities for our teachers as they strengthen their efforts to adapt to the new normal of teaching and learning. Through Gabay Guro, we pursue our aspirations of having inclusive and sustainable education initiatives that uplift the lives of Filipino teachers,” said Chairman Manuel V Pangilinan.
Gabay Guro is a 15-year-old program that has been empowering Filipino teachers through its seven key pillars – scholarships, trainings, classroom donations, livelihood programs, connectivity and computerization, teachers’ tribute, and digital innovations. It reinforces PLDT and Smart’s commitment to the UN Sustainability Development Goals #4, Quality Education.
Anafel is a junior high school and mathematics teacher from Sta. Maria National High School. There, she ensures that she provides a safe space for her students. “I want my students to know that they are safe emotionally and physically. I ask them to keep an online journal to document what they are going through during this pandemic,” Anafel shared.
“Gabay Guro has helped teachers like me to become more positive and resilient as we encounter difficulties, especially with no face-to-face interaction. Through this initiative, educators will be digitally competent to adapt better amid the new normal,” she added.
“Through Gabay Guro, we equip our teachers to become resilient in the face of changes and challenges, especially with the growing need for digital and technological innovations in education. It is our greatest pleasure to provide these opportunities under Gabay Guro’s digital innovations pillar, and to give back to our teachers who are instruments of positive change, for a better future for our children and youth,” said Gabay Guro Chairperson Chaye Cabal-Revilla. “We are grateful to Gabay Guro for our shared advocacy for the last 10 years, on equal and quality educational opportunities for teachers, as we enable them to become further adept amid the new normal. We hope that we are able to give the best platform for teachers to continuously thrive,” said Chery Auto Philippines President Erroll Dueñas.
