Motorcycle riders, clubs, and other groups with bikes of a minimum engine displacement of 400 cubic centimeters (cc) are invited to come together in solidarity to mark the 15th year of motorcycle access to Philippine tollways by riding the expressways on Saturday, September 24, 2022.
The 15th Annual Highway Run, a historical motorcycle event in the country, is endorsed and supported by the Department of Tourism, and organized by San Miguel Infrastructure, Petron Corporation, BMW, Harley Davidson Owners Group (HOGS), BMW Society of Safe Riders (BOSS), and the Mad Dog Motorcycle Club Philippine Chapter.
Designated Petron stations on the expressways (Petron San Pedro – SLEX, Petron Marilao – NLEX, and Petron Pura – TPLEX Southbound) will distribute commemorative giveaways including Highway Run decals as well as loot bags for early bikers. There will also be establishments along popular riding routes offering discounts to riders on that day.
The history of motorcycle access to Philippine tollways dates back to February 19, 1968 when the Department of Public Works and Communications issued Administrative Order No. 1 banning all motorcycles from Limited Access Facilities. Similar orders followed in succeeding years.
For their part, individual motorcycle riders and organizations have engaged in a series of actions to gain access to tollways starting in 2001. These efforts led to an order released by the Department of Transportation and Communications on October 4, 2007 that now allows motorcycles with a displacement of at least 400 cc to operate within the Limited Access Facilities.
The Highway Run is envisioned to be held yearly with the participation of all big bike riders warmly welcomed.
