The 100,000th Porsche Taycan has rolled off the production line three years after Porsche started manufacturing its first fully electric production model at the main Zuffenhausen plant in September 2019. With the Taycan, Porsche marks a decidedly successful start in the electric age.
The milestone vehicle, a Neptune Blue Taycan Turbo S, is destined for a customer in the UK. Porsche reached the 100,000th-unit mark despite the recent challenges posed by the semiconductor shortage, volatile coronavirus environment, and the conflict in Ukraine.
From the fully electric model’s first customer deliveries in late 2019, the Porsche Taycan now comes in three versions — Taycan four-door coupe, Taycan Cross Turismo and Taycan Sport Turismo — and five powertrain options that can be coupled to rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.
Since the model’s first full year on the market in 2020 when it reached over 20,000 homes, customer deliveries of the fully electric Porsche Taycan have more than doubled the following year. The performance of the model continues to be robust as sales in the first nine months of 2022 have already surpassed the total for the entire of 2020. The top three markets for the Porsche Taycan are the US, China and the UK.
It is not only in production that the Porsche Taycan has quickly reached the 100,000th-unit mark; it has also recorded the number in terms of mileage, with many customers having already covered more than 100,000 kilometers in the fully electric sports car.
Besides customers and Porsche employees, automotive journalists are also among Porsche Taycan drivers who have covered significant distances with the fully electric model. A Frozen Blue Taycan 4S completed 100,000 kilometers in accelerated durability testing with the German car magazine Auto Bild. The demanding endurance test started in October 2020 and had just ended earlier this month.
Another authoritative publication, auto motor und sport, has secured a Mamba Green Taycan Cross Turismo 4 for its endurance test fleet. This marks the first time that the publication will complete its full endurance test of 100,000 kilometers with a fully electric vehicle. The test is set to run for two years.
Reflecting the brisk uptake for the Porsche Taycan worldwide is the demand for the fully electric model in the Philippines. Launched locally in 2020, the Porsche Taycan has already become one of the bestselling models in Porsche Philippines’ lineup. Customers who have taken deliveries expressed satisfaction not just over the Porsche Taycan’s dynamic sports car performance, but also for its suitability for daily use, long driving range, and the convenience offered by home and destination charging solutions. Other key benefits cited by customers are their huge savings on high fuel prices, and the Taycan’s exemption from the plate number-coding scheme.
Supporting the domestic adoption of the fully electric Porsche Taycan are the initiatives of Porsche Philippines. Through the “FutureNow” program of PGA Cars, exclusive partner of Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini and Bentley in the Philippines, the company spearheads the transition of the local market to full electric-powered mobility via significant investments. The company has so far spent more than P300 million for the construction of facilities specifically designed and equipped to address the unique requirements and safety standards of electric vehicles, as well as on equipment, tools and personnel development.
