BYD, a global pioneer in new energy solutions with fully electric vehicles and is leading the way to zero-emission mobility in the Philippines graced The Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), which opened last April 13 at the World Trade Center (WTC).
BYD, through its authorized local distributor Solar Transport and Automotive Resources Corp., showcased its latest and premium 100% electric vehicles with sustainable design and a full display of the “floating” Blade Battery, a game-changer in the EV world in terms of safety and efficiency.
Mark Andrew Tieng, President and CEO of Solar Transport, shared that electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming an “increasingly popular form of transportation” and are vital in the “journey toward sustainable transportation.”
“EVs offer a number of benefits over traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, including lower emissions, reduced fuel costs, and smoother and quieter operations,” said Tieng, adding that BYD has contributed immensely to cutting down carbon emissions. In fact, as of April 13, 2023, BYD has saved 31,941,212,881 kilograms of carbon emissions equivalent to planting around 900 million trees.
How was BYD able to do this? It is powered by the company’s commitment to “Build Your Dreams” — Sustainability, Innovation, and Global Reach.
Innovation is at the heart of BYD. It has developed the revolutionary Blade Battery. Unlike conventional EV batteries that are made up of thousands of individual cylindrical battery cells connected together, the Blade Battery is composed of highly efficient battery cells that are stacked together in a unique structure that resembles a blade. This innovative design allows for more space-efficient, and better cooling, enabling BYD reach another level of safety and efficiency.
Part of BYD’s innovation is the e-Platform 3.0, which adopts the integrated design of the blade battery and the body and, on this basis allows BYD to reduce manufacturing costs and increase production efficiency. This system can be configured for front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, or all-wheel drive, depending on the vehicle’s design.
“With these leading technologies and innovations, BYD’s EVs have a longer range, making them a more practical option not only for city driving but also for longer trips. They have a longer lifespan and can be charged conveniently at home or on the go,” said Tieng. He added, “the growing network of charging stations in the Philippines, which is currently pegged at 400, an EV will definitely be functional for day-to-day driving and practical to own in the long run.”
Presenting the 100% pure electric vehicles At the MIAS, Tieng displayed a lineup of BYD’s pure electric vehicles, the only brand to do so this year’s show.
BYD Dolphin offers a combination of advanced technology, performance, style, and long-distance range. Powered by the ultra-safe Blade and designed with the e-Platform 3.0, it is equipped with a 44.9 kWh lithium-ion battery that can provide a driving range of up to 400 kilometers on a single charge. Its spacious interior can comfortably seat up to five passengers.
The BYD Dolphin EV has advanced safety features, such as front, side, and curtain airbags; Electronic Stability Program, and 360-degree Panoramic Cameras. Smart technology includes Electric Rotary Touchscreen Infotainment System and Bluetooth Connectivity, and Smartphone Integration.
“If you are looking for a bigger, more robust, and equally high-performing EV, we have our Tang EV, the latest version of BYD’s electrified seven-seater mid-size SUV,” said Tieng. The BYD Tang EV has a dual motor system that provides all-wheel drive and better handling and vehicle control. The car has a range of up to 500 kilometers on a single charge. It can be charged to 80% in just 30 minutes using a DC fast charger, or add a 50-kilometer range for every 60 minutes with a standard AC charger.
Inside, the Tang is spacious and comfortable, with premium materials used throughout. As it seats seven passengers, it is ideal for family trips. Outside, the Tang EV doesn’t disappoint with its sleek and modern design, sharp dragon face, and modern lines.
The highlight of BYD’s EV presentation was the Han EV Sedan — BYD’s flagship full-sized sedan. The 100% electric sedan has landmark features, luxury design, cutting-edge technology, and sports performance that provide thrills and comfort.
The Han EV has a dual motor system that provides all-wheel drive and better handling. Like the Tang, the Han can be charged to 80% in just 30 minutes using a DC fast charger and a 50-kilometer range for every hour using a standard AC Charger. The car has a range of up to 500 kilometers on a single charge and comes with several smart features and intelligent driving assistance.
“At BYD, we believe that sustainability is not just a buzzword — it’s a way of life. We’re proud to be a company that’s dedicated to making the world a better place, and this new technology is just one example of how we’re doing that,” concluded Tieng, with the invitation to join BYD in its quest toward green mobility on Philippine road, so that the dream for a greener future becomes a reality.
