Globe’s 917Ventures, Ayala Corp. and Gogoro partner to bring sustainable and cost-effective transportation solutions to the everyday Filipino

The EV revolution is a budding movement that is truly starting to gain significant ground here in the Philippines. According to the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (eVAP), over 2,500 electric vehicles were sold in the first quarter of this year alone.

In comes Gogoro Philippines Inc., a joint venture between Globe’s 917Ventures, the Ayala Corp. and Gogoro that aims to bring sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions to Filipinos in the form of two-wheel vehicles and an open battery swap network.

917Ventures’ portfolio of companies include some of the renowned tech solutions we have here in the Philippines: GCash and KonsultaMD to name a few. This partnership marks Globe’s first foray into the climate tech industry.

“The official signing of the joint venture is a big stride in our goal to provide eco-friendly transport that places at the forefront environmental stewardship and mobility for businesses and individuals. Our enduring dedication to effecting positive change in Filipino lives is further underscored by this initiative,” said Ernest Cu, President and CEO of Globe.

Luke Horace, founder and CEO of Gogoro, stresses that the aim of the joint venture is to provide better accessibility of these smart solutions, thus subsequently further accelerating the mass market shift to more sustainable mobility.

“Gogoro Philippines will be an important part of the EV ecosystem that we in Ayala are committed to build,” said Cezar Consing, Ayala Corporation President and CEO. Majority of EV’s in the country right now come in the form of 4-wheel vehicles. There is a gap to fill in the two-wheel market if the country is to further advance the EV movement.

There are already Gogoro Smartscooters roaming our streets as we speak. In order to gain customer insights, Globe employees were provided with the scooters for a pilot-testing program that spanned two months. Hopefully this testing period can provide a platform for a successful commercial launch later this year.

Gogoro’s innovation comes from its battery-swapping platform that allows riders to easily swap out their drained units for fully-charged ones. This platform has found success in Taiwan as numerous battery-swapping stations can be located in the country’s different cities. Gogoro has been empowering nearly 550,000 riders in Taiwan, and is hoping to leave a significant mark in our country’s EV ecosystem as well.
