Porsche 911 Turbo 50 Years: Celebrating Five Decades of Excellence

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 Turbo, the car manufacturer has unveiled a limited-edition model, the 911 Turbo 50 Years, at Monterey Car Week. This exclusive version of the iconic sports car merges remarkable performance with luxurious materials and distinctive design elements, drawing inspiration from historic 911 Turbo models. Limited to 1,974 units—a nod to the year the original 911 Turbo was introduced—the model is based on the last-generation 911 Turbo S.

A Tribute to Porsche’s Turbo Legacy

The original 1974 Type 930 Porsche 911 Turbo revolutionized sports cars by integrating advanced turbo technology from Porsche’s racing history into a production model, combining outstanding performance with daily usability. The 911 Turbo 50 Years model, based on the 911 Turbo S (992), both honors and reinterprets this legacy. It features side vinyl graphics reminiscent of the 911 RSR Turbo’s historic livery, and introduces the new Turbonite color, which is used on various elements including the rear engine cover and fuel tank cap. Anthracite Grey accents on the rear wing blade, mirror base, and air intake trims further evoke the original design. An exclusive badge on the rear engine cover highlights the anniversary years 1974–2024, while an LED door projector displays a turbocharger icon when the door is opened. The model also comes with the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Design wheels in Turbonite as standard.

Interior Inspired by the 1970s

The 911 Turbo 50 Years’ interior evokes the 1970s era with McKenzie tartan on the seat center panels and door inserts, paying homage to the early Turbo models. Turbonite accents enhance the interior’s uniqueness, including on the seat belts, controls, and decorative stitching. The Turbo 50 logo is illuminated on the door kick plates and embroidered into the Adaptive Sports Seats Plus headrests. An anniversary plaque above the glove compartment bears the Turbo 50 logo and the car’s limited-edition number. Additional touches include perforated Race-Tex upholstery for the A-pillar, sun visors, and roof lining, and a Porsche Design Subsecond clock with a special Turbo 50 design on the dashboard.

Heritage Design Package Enhancements

For those seeking an even more nostalgic look, the optional 50 Years of Turbo Heritage Design Package adds several exclusive features. The package includes Aventurine Green Metallic paint, or buyers can choose from standard or Paint to Sample colors. The package also features a decorative graphic in White, with customizable car numbers and logos. The front bonnet and Sport Classic wheels use the historic Porsche crest from 1964, while the rear logos are finished in Gold. Interior enhancements include additional leather features and tartan design elements, with green dials on the instrument cluster and Sport Chrono clock.

Performance and Specifications

The 911 Turbo 50 Years model maintains the performance prowess of the 992 Turbo S. It is powered by a 3.7-liter boxer engine with variable turbine geometry (VTG) twin turbocharging, producing 478 kW (650 PS) and 800 Nm of torque. With a kerb weight of 1,640 kg, the power-to-weight ratio is 2.52 kg/PS. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and reaches 200 km/h in 8.9 seconds. Power is transmitted through an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK) and the active all-wheel-drive Porsche Traction Management (PTM) with Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), which includes an electronically controlled rear differential lock. Standard features include a sports exhaust system with black tailpipes, a 10 mm-lower Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) sports suspension, a front axle lift system, and LED matrix headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus. The brake calipers of the standard PCCB brake system are finished in black.

Exclusive Chronograph

To complement the 911 Turbo 50 Years, Porsche Design Timepieces has crafted a special chronograph. Limited to 1,974 units, this watch features the COSC-certified Porsche Design WERK 01.200 movement with a flyback function. Its black dial, adorned with Turbonite elements, mirrors the dashboard timepiece. The strap is made from black vehicle leather with Turbonite stitching, and the transparent case showcases a winding rotor styled after the car’s wheels. Each chronograph’s limited-edition number matches that of the vehicle. A special version is available in conjunction with the Heritage Design Package.

The Porsche 911 Turbo 50 Years is a celebration of the brand’s rich heritage, offering a blend of historical homage, contemporary style, and exceptional performance.
