Foton Tunland Diesel Hybrid Pickup Truck Goes on Tour

Start spreading the news. Erstwhile commercial vehicle specialist Foton is taking its groundbreaking new full-size pickups—the Tunland V7 and Tunland V9—on a roadshow, with the Tunland On Tour Roadshow Series. And it’s not just the big truck that’s making big news.

That’s because the Tunland trucks are redefining a car company that’s long been known for its dependable and value-packed commercial vehicles—from light multi-purpose commercial vehicles to massive multi-axle trucks.

Foton’s Tunland V7 and Tunland V9 are introducing new levels of luxury, space, and technology to what has traditionally been a utilitarian vehicle—the pickup truck.

And Foton Motor Philippines is all set to take on the mantle as a purveyor of lifestyle-oriented pickup trucks—but ones that can still take on serious workloads. The Tunland Diesel Hybrid pickups will showcase the technological evolution of Foton commercial vehicles from workhorse truck to lifestyle vehicle.

The Tunland On Tour will kick off at the Main Atrium of SM Mall of Asia on October 3 and will run until October 9, to be followed by more displays at other SM Malls in future dates.

To highlight the lifestyle aspect of the full-size Tunland pickups, the display units will be fitted with outdoor gear from Overland Kings.

“We’re excited to let the public take an up close and personal look at our new Tunland V7 and V9 pickups, which will set new size, luxury, performance, and fuel-efficiency benchmarks in the lifestyle pickup truck segment,” says Foton Motor Philippines Inc. General Manager Levy Santos.

Measuring a massive 5,617 millimeters in length, 2,090 millimeters in width and 1,910 millimeters in height, and with a ground clearance of 240 millimeters, the Tunland Diesel Hybrid is a full-size pickup that exceeds the dimensions of most other diesel pickups on the market today.

Both trucks boast bold and mean-looking exterior styling with front ends that are among the most aggressive you’ll find on the road today. The Tunland V9 sports a huge all-black honeycomb grille bracketed by glaring quad headlamps, on top of which is an expansive hood with a powerful hood bulge. The side view is equally menacing with muscular blacked-out fender flares over huge 265/70R18 tires.

The Tunland V7 is even more brutish, with an even bigger black grille and stacked quad headlamps. Its massive façade looks like it belongs to an 18-wheeler truck.

“Aside from world-class technology, superior product value, and fuel-efficiency, the Tunland is backed by a solid 5-year/150,000-km warranty,” Santos added.

The new Tunland pickups are powered by a state-of-the-art Aucan 2.0L Turbo Diesel Hybrid engine that generates 161 horsepower and 450 Newton-meters of torque. The powertrain is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission for both models. Both the Tunland V7 and V9 are available in 4×2 and 4×4 variants.

The rugged, heavy-duty suspension is via front independent double wishbones for both trucks and a rear leaf spring rigid axle for the Tunland V7. The Tunland V9, meanwhile, boasts a five-link integrated-axle rear suspension. Their advanced truck body construction is a high-tech mix of high-strength steel with lightweight and energy-absorbing materials and design.

Inside their spacious cabins, the Tunland V7 and V9 feature leather interiors, power-adjustable seats, a leather-wrapped multi-functional steering wheel, full LCD instrumentation, and a 14.6-inch multimedia touchscreen infotainment, among many more luxury, comfort, and convenience features.

Foton was the first Chinese automotive brand to enter the Top 10 car companies in the Philippines in terms of sales. And it’s continuing to strengthen its presence with the new Tunland V7 and Tunland V9 pickups.
