UPDATED: SUV hits cyclist, jeepney in Parañaque

Nine people were hurt, including two students, when a sport utility vehicle (SUV) crashed into several vehicles in Parañaque City on Monday.

Initial investigation revealed that a multiple-vehicle collision involving a black Mitsubishi Montero (ZSN-979), a Mitsubishi Lancer, a passenger jeepney, and a cyclist happened around 8 a.m. along Dr. A. Santos Avenue in Brgy. San Antonio.

The police report said that the SUV ran over the cyclist, eventually hitting the passenger jeepney which, in turn, bumped the right side portion of the Lancer.

“Kawawa yung mga estudyante na papasok. May nga matanda din na sugatan. May isang lalaki pa na napasok sa ilalim ng sasakyan, (I feel sorry for the students headed to school. There were old people too who were hurt. One man found himself under the vehicle),” Catunao said in her post.

In a clip posted by Catunao, several people were shown attempting to lift the SUV to extricate a man stuck underneath the vehicle. Video showed the man was on his bicycle when he was run over by the SUV.

Catunao said that the SUV was speeding through traffic when the accident occurred.

The driver of the SUV, identified as Juan de Zuñiga Jr., 72, will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries with damage to property.
