Suzuki Motor Corp. celebrates centennial landmark

Japanese motorcycle and automaker Suzuki Motor Corporation is celebrating its centennial anniversary this year.

In a statement, the company thanked customers and valuable partners that were keys to its success in adapting to the trend of the times, as well as domestic and global markets, for 100 years.

“We at Suzuki will look at this year as a remarkable achievement that reminds us of Suzuki’s resilience over the years. It is with honor that we announce to you our celebration of Suzuki Motor Corporation’s 100th anniversary this year, the company statement said.

The company’s founder, Michio Suzuki, established the Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Co. in the seacoast village of Hamamatsu on March 15, 1920. Initially, Suzuki built weaving looms for the local silk industry and for overseas export. To diversify the business, the company looked for the next product with growing consumer demand — small cars.

Since then, Suzuki has manufactured automobiles, four-wheel drive vehicles, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), outboard marine engines, and other products. Today, Suzuki Motor Corporation employs more than 45,000 personnel in 35 production facilities located in 23 countries, and has a network of 133 distributors in 192 countries.

“This year, we are celebrating our 100th anniversary. Your kind support at all times is truly the greatest factor that has enabled us to always be close to our customers’ daily lives and achieve the commemorative 100th anniversary. All members of Suzuki Motor Corporation take this as an important milestone to re-affirm the founder’s philosophy of “focusing on customers” and strive to deliver products to customers across the globe. For this, we would sincerely appreciate your continuous support,” shares Suzuki Motor Corporation chairman Osamu Suzuki and president Toshihiro Suzuki, in the joint statement.

“On behalf of SMC Japan, we would like to express our utmost appreciation for your patronage that has enabled Suzuki to achieve this commemorative milestone. As we embark and look forth to another 100 years, Suzuki re-affirms its commitment to deliver value-packed products to our customers across the globe, despite the many challenges ahead. We will only be able to achieve this goal through your continuous support to the Suzuki brand and quality. We hope that your commitment will remain steadfast as we grow towards a 100 years more,” concludes Suzuki Philippines Inc. president Akira Utsumi.
