When Bristol Motorcycles entered the local market in 2018 – courtesy of Sinski Motorcycle Philippines – the company aims to offer high-quality bikes to Filipino consumers without breaking the bank. Plus points for the good looks, but value-for-money was the main priority of the company.
That business direction continues with the new Bristol Maxie 400, the company’s first entry into the growing maxi-scooter market in the Philippines.
The Bristol Maxie 400 is highway legal, powered by a 4-stroke, single-cylinder, 4-valve engine (Bosch electronic fuel injection) with a 377cc displacement. Despite that, it’s marked 400cc on paper, just like the classic-looking BR400i and Classic 400i that the company currently offers.
The Maxis 400’s liquid-cooled engine makes 29.1hp and 33.5Nm of torque with a compression ratio of 9.5:1. It has a large 17.4L fuel tank, paired with a claimed fuel consumption of 25 km/L. And, as with all maxi-scooters, the Maxie 400 runs on automatic transmission, making it a comfortable cruiser both on open roads and within the confines of the city. According to Bristol, the Maxie 400 has a maximum speed of 138 km/h.
Bristol’s maxi-scooter measures 2,306mm long, 820mm wide, and 1,343mm tall, with a wheelbase of 1,578mm. In comparison, the Kymco Xciting S 400i is smaller in overall dimensions, though the Bristol has a lower seat height at just 730mm. This makes the Maxie 400 friendly to shorter riders such as myself. Ground clearance is at 170mm, while weight is rated at 208 kg.
Keeping road imperfections at bay are telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the back. The wheels measure 14 inches at the front and 13 inches at the back, equipped with single disc brakes with ABS and wrapped with tubeless tires.
In terms of tech, the Maxie 400 has a TFT display for its instrument, while smartphone charging is possible with its USB port. The display has a tire pressure monitoring system and voltmeter for the battery. It also comes standard with front and rear dashcams, while the ignition is keyless. What makes it even high-tech is the availability of a mobile app that allows users to monitor the bike’s status (basic condition), navigation, and trip meter. Owners can also arm or disarm the Maxie 400 via the app or even activate its alarm remotely.
Bristol sells the new Maxie 400 with an introductory price of P328,000. It’s available in five colors: white, silver, black, blue, and red. Bristol Motorcycles dealerships are located in Caloocan City, Pasig City, Antipolo, Pampanga, Cavite, Laguna, and Cebu.
