Ford is currently known in the Philippines as a company that sells huge cars – and it’s not showing signs of slowing down.
Right off the heels of the next-generation Ranger’s global reveal earlier this week, Ford Philippines hosted an intimate debut of America’s best-selling vehicle, the Ford F-150. But unlike the gasoline-powered full-size truck that was launched last year, the F-150 that we now have is the 14th generation model. More importantly, it’s now powered by a diesel engine.
According to Ford Philippines Communications Director EJ Francisco, there’s a reason why the company chose to bring in the diesel. Apparently, customers were looking for a diesel variant of the old F-150 from last year. Not surprising, and kudos to Ford Philippines for listening to what its customers demand.
That said, the Philippine-spec F-150 is now powered by a 3.0L 4-Valve DOHC Power Stroke V6 turbodiesel mill. It produces up to 250hp and 596Nm of torque, sent to all four wheels via a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. The transmission is said to be equipped with a Progressive Range Select feature, while the powertrain comes with selectable drive modes.
This is the 14th generation model, which means that it’s a completely different truck from what we had last year. Dressed in Lariat form, it comes with a tough-looking fascia, decorated with a fang-like pair of configurable LED DRLs. The affliction to LED doesn’t stop there as the F-150 also comes with LED cargo box lighting with Zone lighting function, LED reflector headlamps with dynamic bending, LED fog lamps with cornering lamps, and LED taillights.
To complete the look from the outside, the local-spec F-150 Lariat Diesel 4×4 comes standard with power-deployable running boards with kick switch and a set of six-spoke dark alloy-painted aluminum wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires.
Inside, the Ford F-150 comes with a seriously posh cabin underlining its utilitarian nature. Buyers will be greeted with premium leather-wrapped bucket seats upon opening the doors, along with a panoramic moonroof, a stowable gear shifter, and massive creature space both at the front and at the back. There’s seat ventilation as well, but the 60/40 split rear seats are relegated with seat heating.
Other notable amenities include a remote keyless entry system, accessory delay for power features, dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control, and power-adjustable pedals with memory function.
As for the infotainment, the 2022 F-150 comes with a 12-inch LCD touchscreen that runs on the all-new Sync 4 software. It has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with the music routed to a premium 8-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system with a subwoofer.
The company also equipped the 2022 F-150 with the latest Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0, which comes with the automaker’s most up-to-date safety suite of technologies. These tech features include pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking (AEB), blind spot information system (BLIS) with cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping system (LKS), auto-high beam headlamps, reverse sensing system, reverse brake assist, and post-collision braking.
The icing on the top of that tech-filled cake is Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go feature, along with lane centering, speed sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. And of course, the nifty 360-degree camera that comes standard with Ford’s Active Park Assist 2.0.
The 2022 Ford F-150 Lariat Diesel 4×4 comes in seven colors, including Agate Black Metallic, Iconic Silver Metallic, Lead Foot, Oxford White, Rapid Red Metallic, Velocity Blue Metallic, and Carbonized Gray Metallic. It’s now available in Ford dealerships nationwide with a price tag of P3,398,000.
