Updated JAC S2 still at same price – for now

The official distributor of the vehicle maker headquartered in Hefei, Anhui Province, China is doubling down on what is already its bestselling model in the Philippines.

Triesenburg Auto Corporation (TAC), which carries JAC passenger and light commercial vehicles, recently unveiled online the refreshed version of its JAC S2 crossover. For now, as an introductory offer, the vehicle’s two models keep the old pricing of P798,000 for the CVT variant and P748,000 for the manual transmission.

In a release, TAC said that when it first brought in JAC, the “objective was not to really get a big piece of the pie, but get a modest customer base and ensure 110 percent customer satisfaction.” The JAC S2 has embodied that aspiration, the firm continued, by providing “specs and innovation at a price point that no one in the market can match” since the brand entered the local industry in 2018.

The updated S2 gets an altered gear ratio – from 4.056 to 6.65 – which, said TAC, promises better agility. A MacPherson independent suspension provides support for the front end, while torsion beam semi-independents are at the rear. Stopping power comes through disc brakes. JAC also provides new 16-inch alloys to the S2, still fitted with 205/55 tires.

The updated JAC S2 boasts the same 1.5-liter VVT engine, mated to either a CVT or manual transmission. It outputs 111hp and 146Nm.

The crossover measures 4,135mm long, 1,750mm wide, and 1,568mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,490mm. It musters a turning radius of around 5.5m, and gets a minimum ground clearance of 120mm when fully loaded. The S2’s cargo bay can swallow a total of 450 liters.

Safety features include dual airbags, driver and passenger seatbelt alarms, Isofix-ready rear seating, immobilizer, Anti-lock Brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Electronic Stability Control, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Brake Override System, and Hill Start Assist. The crossover also has a cruise control system, rear parking sensor, and reversing camera.

Its exterior look has been modified as well, with the front fascia getting a more streamlined treatment even as the trapezoidal grille returns. Daytime running lamps have been integrated into the headlamp assembly. In the cabin is a new nine-inch multimedia touchscreen – now compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Seats get red stitching for a sportier look.

Overall, the TAC positions the JAC S2 as giving more bang for the buck, enabling customers to get “more vehicle” for the price point. For more information, visit their website.
