In a bid to stop the proliferation of fake driver’s license, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has urged the public to refrain from dealing with fixers.
In a Facebook post, the licensing agency warned the public from engaging the services of fixers on Facebook who promise to secure driver’s licenses without personal appearance at the LTO.
“Applying for a driver’s license needs a personal appearance for biometrics. Non-appearance is not applicable,” LTO said.
LTO said that applicants should transact directly with legitimate officers of LTO and ensure that their license is genuine.
The agency has also urged the public to report online scammers to their office or online. Fixers’ fraudulent activities may also be reported to the Philippine National Police’s Anti-Cyber Crime Group at Camp Karingal in Quezon City.
Last year, 12 suspected fixers were apprehended by authorities after posing as LTO employees in Quezon City.
In a report by The STAR, authorities said the fixers were asking clients for as much as P5,000 in exchange for processing their driver’s licenses.
The fixers supposedly promised their clients that they would pass the written and driving tests in securing a driver’s license if they pay the amount.
“They approach clients and act as if they belong to an LTO help desk or are part of the agency,” Clarence Guinto, head of the LTO Law Enforcement Service, said.
