Lawyers’ group backs ‘no garage, no car’ campaign

Support appears to be growing for the Department of Interior and Local Government’s ‘no garage, no car’ proposal, as the Lawyers for Commuters Safety Protection (LCSO) showed expressed approval.

LCSO founder Atty. Ariel Inton said that consumers who don’t not have parking space should be prohibited from buying a vehicle, saying that a lot of these vehicle owners tend to leave them on the sidewalk.

“Tama ‘yan, ‘pag walang proof of parking dapat hindi mabentahan ng sasakyan. Pag binentahan at nadiskubreng walang sariling garahe dapat na panagutin ‘yung auto dealer (That’s just right. If there’s no proof of parking, these people shouldn’t be sold a vehicle. Dealers selling to people without proof of parking must be held liable). Sa operation nga namin dito lang sa QC eh ginagawa lang na parking ang mga sidewalks ng mga car owners na walang garahe (Here in Quezon City, people without garages use the sidewalks to park their cars).” Inton said.

In order to rid the streets of illegally parked vehicles, Inton said that prospective buyers should provide proof to car dealers before being allowed to purchase a vehicle. Inton earlier showed his support for the passage of Sen. Sherwin Gatachalian’s Senate Bill 201 or the Proof of Parking Space Act.
