‘Premier motoring authority’ is back with more thrills and fast-paced fun

It’s back for more – and with more in store.

The Philippine STAR’s Wheels is set to crack open another treasure trove of motoring goodies for a fifth run – this time on Cignal TV. Set to appear on One News (Channels 8 and 250) Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. (with several replay schedules) beginning May 29, the show positions itself as the “premier motoring authority.”

Celebrated actor, singer, and triathlete Matteo Guidicelli – who dabbled in motorsports in his younger years – returns as the show’s host. He is again joined by the “Masters of Wheels,” STAR Motoring editor Manny De Los Reyes and motoring columnists Angel Rivero and Kap Maceda Aguila.

On the Wheels season debut, Angel interviews noted social entrepreneur Illac Diaz – known for his innovative, environment-friendly “Liter of Light” project which repurposes plastic soda bottles into “low-cost light tubes that refract solar light to provide… lighting for (houses) with thin roofs.” Diaz has a customized and specialized Volkswagen Kombi, which goes around with him as he visits communities in most need of help.

Manny, Angel, and Kap then compare a trio of budget-friendly rides: the Toyota Wigo, Hyundai Eon, and Foton Gratour – seeking a decisive answer to the question of whether vehicles in this ultra-affordable price point indeed offer the most bang for one’s buck.

Finally, Matteo and Kap run down some of the best new cars during summer’s biggest motoring spectacle: The Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).

After more than 50 episodes and 200 segments since its debut, Wheels continues to deliver taut, concise, and exciting content for car enthusiasts and motoring observers. The fifth season promises more fun and relatable content in a bid to further expand the show’s base of loyal viewers.

Matteo Guidicelli is not just an awarded actor on the big and small screens, but actually first gained fame as a proficient karter at the young age of 11. His natural skill behind the wheel earned him numerous accolades – including three Karter of the Year trophies – and today supplement his credibility as a motoring personality. Matteo is also an avid biker who loves going on long rides.

“I thoroughly enjoy doing this show, which I consider a refreshing break from my work as an actor and singer,” reveals Matteo. “Obviously, I’ve always had an affinity with anything motoring related. To be honest, I am still as excited about Wheels now that we’re on our fifth season just as when I was first offered a chance to be part of it in 2015. I hope that people continue to join us in our adventures and enjoy our visual storytelling.”

Meanwhile, Manny, Angel, and Kap have been covering automotive events here and abroad for decades, and continue to be at the forefront of motoring developments which they write about on The STAR. “Wheels differentiates itself with the simple fact that the people behind it aren’t necessarily TV veterans. They’re true motoring journalists who share a deep passion for cars, and this translates to a refreshing honest in the show,” says Manny.

Wheels has a new home in Filinvest’s West Gate in Alabang – a lifestyle center with a distinct suburban feel. The destination on Alabang-Zapote Road features pocket, cluster-arranged retail and master-planned, pedestrian-friendly open spaces. Casual wear designer, manufacturer, and retail giant Uniqlo is the apparel sponsor of Manny, Angel, and Kap.

So, the question is: Are you ready to roll? Season 5 of Wheels is here, and you’re invited for the exciting ride.
