DOTr orders LTFRB to summon driver of speeding bus on EDSA

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday called the attention of the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board to summon the driver and operator of a public utility bus caught speeding through the EDSA bus lane on Thursday.

The DOTr has also urged the Land Transportation Office to immediately sanction the driver of the Joanna Jesh Transport bus with plate number CAP 5133.

The dashcam video, which made rounds on social media on Thursday, shows a public utility bus accelerating through the tight EDSA bus lane. The speeding bus also knocked over a few concrete barriers, prompting private vehicles on the other lane to stop.

In a Facebook post, the agency warned bus drivers that the EDSA Busway is not meant to be abused.

“Ang EDSA Busway ay ginawa upang tulungan kayo at ang mga pasahero ninyo. HINDI ITO GINAWA PARA ABUSUHIN NINYO,” the agency said.

“Ano po ang dahilan para magpatakbo na parang nakikipag-karera? Ano ang dahilan para ilagay ninyo sa alanganin ang buhay ng mga pasahero ninyo at iba pang taong gumagamit ng kalsada? HINDI PO NAMIN ITO MAPAPALAMPAS,” it added.

The government recently set up the exclusive lanes on EDSA in order to speed up the travel time of commuters as public transportation remains limited due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
