The aftermath of every vehicular accident involving sport utility vehicles (SUVs) triggers an inevitable debate among motorists on whether the mishap was caused by a driver error or a case of “sudden unintended acceleration” or SUA.

The issue appears to be resurfacing once again on several Facebook groups after a white Mitsubishi Montero figured in an accident in Manila on Tuesday afternoon, killing a woman and injuring three others.

According to a police report, the driver was attempting to start the engine of his second-generation Montero when it suddenly went on reverse, pinning the victims in front of a store in Quiapo, Manila.

On Wednesday evening, a black Toyota Fortuner plowed several people and parked motorcycles beside the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Baclaran, Parañaque City after the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. At least 10 people were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Police have yet to determine the cause of the accident.

With these recent SUV-related road accidents, a Facebook group for Mitsubishi Montero users couldn’t help airing their take on the matter.
