After bringing in the new Cannon, China’s pickup expert is shifting gears in the Philippines and introduces a mid-sized SUV for the adventurous. The Haval H9 is the brand’s newest SUV for those who want a robust family vehicle or weekend steed while putting up less in payments. It comes in a sole 4×4 trim that comes in under PHP 2-million pesos, undercutting its Japanese rivals in the segment.

The Haval H9 makes itself distinct with an unapologetic squarish silhouette. The A-pillar is almost upright, while the front and sides are flat. There’s a bit of bump from the wheel wells and other accents, but the straight patterns are still dominant. It’s more visible at the rear with its cut-off area with only the spare tire cover providing some curves.

It can definitely keep up with the big boys of the segment. Under the hood is a 2.4-liter turbodiesel that makes 186 horsepower and 480 Nm of pull. This is combined with a 9-speed automatic that sends power to all four wheels with GWM’s 4WD system.

While the exterior is intimidating, the interior is definitely a contrast with its plush appointments. You’ll be greeted with this gold leather upholstery and modern amenities. There’s a 14.6-inch touchscreen at the center of the dash, accompanied by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster for an easier view of all vehicle information.

The driver gets a 6-way Powered Driver’s Seat with a 4-way Lumbar support, there’s a cooling vent at the center box, a 3-zone Automatic Climate Control, USB-C port, and 50w Wireless Charger, among others. It also has Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with Voice Command Function.
In terms of safety, the Haval H9 is pretty much loaded too. It has a 540-degree Camera, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Descent Control, Hill Start Assist, and All-Wheel Drive with Torque on Demand.

Yes, there’s no Advanced Driver Assist System in the Haval H9 but that’s the trade-off they chose to meet the price point. The upside to that is you have a 4×4 7-seater SUV that is priced at only PHP 1,998,888. It comes in white, gloss black, and stealth gray finishes.

The Haval H9 is riding on GWM’s strong 2025 momentum. They finished last year with a 33% year-on-year growth, reflecting the trust Filipinos have on the brand. The H9 also comes with their standard 7-year warranty that includes the engine and transmission.
