MRT-3 maintenance provider relieves personnel involved in hasty train disinfection

The maintenance provider of MRT-3 will relieve the cleaning personnel caught hastily disinfecting the coaches of an MRT-3 train, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

In a message sent to the MRT-3 management, Sumitomo-MHI-TESP said that apart from relieving those involved, they are also intending to file an administrative case against the personnel.

“We apologize for the incident regarding members of disinfection team not properly doing their job. We will relieve the staff involved within the day while we are proceeding with the admin case. Meanwhile, we have notified all team members to always observe proper disinfection as they were trained to do. We are also deploying two additional staff to ensure that they are properly supervised,” TESP Administration Manager Toto Domingo said.

The management also said that Sumitomo is deploying additional staff to supervise its disinfection teams and rolling out a re-training of its maintenance personnel.

This developed after a video involving two cleaning personnel went viral on social media over the weekend. In the clip, two men are seen hastily spraying and wiping the handles inside an MRT-3 train.

Meanwhile, MRT-3 Director for Operations Michael J. Capati said that the MRT-3 is already installing additional CCTVs and realigning other units in order to ensure cleaning areas are captured on footage by the management’s own security personnel.

“We assure our passengers that the MRT-3 takes the sanitation and disinfection of its trains seriously and that their health and safety are our top priorities. We are taking all the necessary steps to ensure this incident will never happen again,” Capati said.

The MRT-3 is also deploying additional stations personnel to oversee the work of its maintenance provider to ensure that proper sanitation and disinfection protocols are being followed.
