The waiting game is finally over for some motorists as new license plates are now available for claiming.

Four-wheel vehicle owners who applied for a license plate from July 2016 to April 2019 can now get their official license plates.

According to Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Edgar Galvante, over 1,774,474 license plates have been made through the agency’s automated and manual plate-making machine.

Galvante said that the agency will procure another plate-making machine in order to address the backlog of motorcycle plates.

The machine can produce around 700 plates an hour.

The LTO chief also said that vehicles registered until December in Luzon now have plates. Cars that were registered until September 2019 in NCR, Region 3, and 4A don’t have plates available yet. The agency will be working on the backlog in the following months, according to a statement.

Meanwhile, cars registered until December 2019 in Visayas and Mindanao now have ready plates. The agency seeks to address all of the backlog by October.

The agency is working to finish the implementing rules and regulations on the larger motorcycle plates already passed by Congress.

President Duterte has enacted a law requiring larger, readable and color-coded number plates for motorcycles in order to prevent crime.
