MMDA: Marcos Bridge to be closed for 4 months

The rehabilitation work on a portion of Marcos Bridge will finally begin on May 25, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

After a series of postponements, a portion of Marcos Bridge will be closed to traffic for four months to give way to rehabilitation.

In a statement, MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said that the closure of the eastbound portion of Marcos Bridge along Marcos Highway will begin at 11 p.m.

“After two weeks of preparations, it is definite now. Marcos Bridge will be closed for the next four months to give way to its long-overdue rehabilitation,” Garcia said.

The rehabilitation work was initially scheduled on May 4 but was later moved to May 11 after private contractors handling the project failed to accomplish the necessary preparations for the rerouting scheme.

“Private contractors are now ready to push through with the rehabilitation after complying with the necessary requirements they need to address,” declared Garcia.

Traffic signs were already installed around the site to minimize the inconvenience it may cause to both commuters and motorists.

Built in 1979 at the boundary of Marikina and Pasig, the Marcos Bridge has an average daily traffic of 6,400 per hour in both directions.
