The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will deploy around 2,500 personnel to manage traffic for the opening of classes on Monday, according to its Chairman Danilo Lim.
The traffic personnel will be fielded before 5 a.m.
“We shall field traffic personnel in traffic-prone areas around the metropolis and monitor traffic situation on roads leading to schools so we can easily augment (them) when needed,” said Lim.
MMDA district traffic heads were ordered to coordinate with school authorities, local traffic officials, and barangay personnel to discuss plans to improve traffic flow within the vicinity of schools.
Teroy Taguinod, MMDA traffic discipline office chief, said that they have coordinated with some school administrators to allow students to be picked up or dropped off inside the school premises to avoid traffic buildup around the school zones.
Traffic tends to congest outside of schools, and will likely affect vehicles along EDSA and other major thoroughfares in the metro.
