Vehicle sales up 1.46% in H1 – CAMPI, TMA

The latest joint report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippine, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association Inc. (TMA) showed that a total of 174,331 units were sold in the first half of the year – 1.46% higher than the same period last year (171,635) – despite declining passenger car (PC) demand.

PC sales were down by 6.4 percent to 52,418 units. Commercial vehicle (CV) sales from January to June 2019, on the other hand, rose by 5.3 percent (121,717 units) compared to the same period last year (115,606).

Meanwhile, vehicle sales in the month of June 2019 rose by 8.7 percent from the same period last year, with 31,950 units sold.

“We remain very optimistic that the local auto industry is already on a path of steady growth after we conclude the first half of the year on a positive note,” said Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, president of CAMPI.

“The automotive brands’ collective efforts, highlighted by fleet sales, good financing deals, and model updates and upgrades, show that we have learned to adjust and adapt to market conditions thus helping consumers acquire new vehicles with fewer hurdles,” he added

Meanwhile, Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation remained the top-selling car brand in the first semester of 2019, cornering 42.18 percent of the market, followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation with 17.92 percent, and Nissan Philippines Inc. with 12.09 percent.
