Duterte opens Candon bypass road in Ilocos Sur

President Rodrigo Duterte recently inaugurated the P717-M Candon City bypass road project in Ilocos Sur.

During his speech, Duterte said the completion of the Candon City road project is an important component of the government’s infrastructure development program.

“This project is expected to promote economic activity and enhanced mobility in the urban and rural areas of Ilocos Sur and neighboring provinces as well,” Duterte said.

The bypass road is expected to reduce travel time between the towns Sta. Lucia and Santiago in Ilocos Sur from 40 minutes to 20 minutes and seen to benefit around 13,000 motorists daily.

With the completion of the 7.319-kilometer road project, motorists will now have an alternate route going to the northern part of Ilocos Region which starts in Barangay Ayudante and ends in Barangay Tablaca.

“This project emphasizes the importance of infrastructure and connectivity in the overall development of our nation. That is why the government continues to heavily invest in our Build, Build, Build Program to enhance the connectivity and improve the people’s movement,” Duterte added.

For his part, Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said that the completion of the road project has helped in the decongestion of traffic along the Manila North Road bound for Manila and the municipalities of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and the provinces of Abra.

The four-lane road project crosses barangays in Candon City namely Ayudante, Parioc 1st, Calaoan, Oaig Daya, Bagani Gabor, Bagani Campo, Bagani Ubbog, and Tablac.

The newly built road features road signs, waiting sheds, provision pavement markings, and the four-lane Oaig Daya Bridge.
