From hero to zero.
Remember the guy who went viral for exacting revenge on a man who “touched” his friend’s wife inappropriately? Yes, he was the guy who rained punches on the fiend aboard a moving public utility jeepney as he clung outside it. Well, he’s a hero no more after he got arrested – for snatching.
Jomar Alingod was detained on Wednesday after snatching the cellphone of a 54-year-old businesswoman.
According to the police officer who accosted Alingod in his hideout, the suspect resisted the arrest and prompted witnesses to interfere with the authorities. The police said that Alingod has been previously jailed for robbery.
Last month, Alingod’s previous heroic action – ironically initially believed to be a snatching incident – went viral on social media. Alingod’s bravery earned him an audience with Manila Mayor Isko Moreno as he then also cleared his name.
Moreno said then that aggrieved people should seek the help of the police instead of taking the law into their own hands.
It seems Alingod will be taking those hands behind bars. – Ludy Bermundo
