One person died while six others were injured after the driver of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) lost control while on reverse in Sta. Cruz, Manila on Tuesday.
According to Manila Police District Station 3 commander Plt. Coronel Rey Magdaluyo, the witnesses heard a loud noise when the driver started the engine before it suddenly backed up, plowing people in front of a store.

“Pag-start nila ng sasakyan, biglang umungol ang makina at hindi nila ma-control at umatras nang pagkabilis-bilis at pagkalakas-lakas na natamaan ang mga biktima,” Magdaluyo said.

The injured victims were rushed to the Jose Reyes Medical Center and Metro Hospital.
The driver of a white second-generation Mitsubishi Montero is now in police custody.
