EDSA U-turn slots to be closed for busway

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is scheduled to close a number of U-turn slots along EDSA to smoothen the implementation of the EDSA Busway project.

On Monday, the MMDA closed the U-turn slot covering both southbound at northbound of EDSA, near Trinoma Mall and North Avenue.

In the following days, the agency will also close the U-turn slots in De Jesus, Gen. Tinio, Malvar, and Biglang-Awa in Caloocan City; Balintawak, Kaingin, Landers, Dario Bridge, Walter Mart, Quezon City Academy, Trinoma, Timog, and Santolan in Quezon City.

To guide the motorists who are regularly using the said slots, the MMDA will install ‘directional traffic signs.’

Instead of using the closed U-turn slot in North Avenue, motorists may follow this detour route: (southbound to northbound) use the Quezon Avenue service road U-turn slot, while (northbound going to southbound) can pass through the Quezon Academy U-turn slot.

“Closure of the U-turn slots will be done gradually. Traffic advisories will be installed within the affected areas to inform the motorists and commuting public of any change,” shares MMDA chairman Danny Lim.

He also said that the closure of the U-turn slots will result in faster travel along the EDSA Busway and will benefit more motorists whose commute times will be shortened.

A few “left turns” will also be affected; including those in EDSA-Ortigas to Greenhills, EDSA-Ortigas to Meralco and EDSA to Rockwell. – Danilo Garcia/PSN
