Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge now 93% complete – DPWH

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said that the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge project is now 93% complete.

In a statement released on Monday, Public Works and Highways Sec. Mark Villar said that there are only few activities left before the P1.46 billion bridge project opens in July.

“At 93 percent complete barring severe weather, the goal of opening Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge to traffic by next month will likely be reached,” Villar said.

Villar said that the DPWH will focus on the completion of the “approach road of the bridge and other miscellaneous works” as the project enters its final phase “this couple of weeks.”

When completed, the China-funded 506-meter bridge would have four lanes from the previous two and can accommodate an average of 50,000 vehicles per day.

“Concreting of approach road on both sides of Makati and Mandaluyong will complete the links with the finished main and approach bridge,” Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain said.

“A 50.5 meter approach road at Estrella Street, Makati towards the completed 66 meter approach bridge and 146 main bridge will be paved with concrete cement in the coming days with similar work underway for the 243.96 meter Mandaluyong approach road at Barangka Drive towards E. Pantaleon Street,” Sadain added.

The bridge is expected to alleviate bottlenecks between Estrella street in Makati and Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong and is seen to reduce travel time between the two cities to 12 minutes.
