Aston Martin DBX707 ups the ante in luxury and performance

By no means does the Aston Martin DBX a weak SUV. With almost 550 horses available on tap, a standard high-rider Aston is already a headline maker – yet here we are witnessing the birth of the new Aston Martin DBX707. And yes, those numbers represent what’s under that sleek bonnet.

While cars of yesteryears have numbers on their names to represent their engine sizes, Aston Martin went straight to name the latest version of the DBX with how much it produces – 707 metric horsepower (697 hp) coming from a familiar 4.0-liter V8 engine.

Tuned to make up to 900 Nm of torque, Aston was able to squeeze out more power by adding a new pair of ball-bearing turbochargers along with an updated engine calibration to make the most of the added boost. A completely new quad-exit active exhaust system is paired with the added intake, promoting better airflow and a desirable note.

To send all those numbers to all four wheels, the DBX707 comes with a new nine-speed wet-clutch gearbox with automatic and manual modes. The rear e-diff has been upgraded as well to make it stronger, plus the final drive ratio has been shortened to 3:27 for better acceleration.

Apart from the powertrain and drivetrain upgrades, the DBX707 also gets revised dampers for the air suspension and stiffer springs. These are complemented by an Electronic Active Roll Control (eARC) system, keeping the SUV on its feet. Braking’s upgraded as well with carbon-ceramic disc brakes (16.5 inches in front and 15.4 inches at back) taking care of the halting duties.

With “Race Start” mode activated, the Aston Martin DBX707 can lunge forward at 4,000 rpm, allowing the SUV to sprint from zero to 97 km/h in just 3.1 seconds. The top speed is rated at 311 km/h.

As a luxury SUV, the DBX707 still comes with cabin niceties. Sports seats with dark chrome trim are standard, but comfort seats with traditional brighter chrome or carbon fiber finishes are optional. The lower console is specific to the DBX707, as it features manual controls for various drive and exhaust modes. The British marque employs soft-close doors, as well, for added posh.

Beyond the abundant dark chrome accents on the outside, the DBX707 comes with a larger grille than the regular DBX, along with new air intakes, redesigned daytime running lights, and a mean front splitter. The rear fascia made room for the quad exhaust finishers below, while a massive diffuser adds a finishing touch and added aero functionalities.

The Aston Martin DBX707 starts at $232,000 or around P12 million with the current exchange rates (before import duties, etc). Aston Martin Philippines has confirmed to me that it will be available in the country sooner or later – sooner if someone will immediately place an indent order for the most powerful luxury SUV that money can buy.

Aston Martin announced that the production of the DBX707 will begin during the first quarter of 2022. Customer deliveries will start in Q2.
