Porsche has introduced the second-generation Macan with a 100% electric powertrain, making it the sports car brand’s first electric SUV — and the second all-electric model after the highly successful Taycan. The new Macan is defined by progressive design, characteristic Porsche performance, and a long-distance range that makes it suitable for both city and highway driving.
Unveiled during the model’s world premiere recently held in Singapore were the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo, spearheading the new Macan lineup.
With the 100% electric Macan, Porsche uses the newly developed Premium Platform Electric (PPE) for the first time. The PPE receives an 800-volt architecture hallmarked by a pair of electric motors that draw their energy from a lithium-ion battery located under the body of the vehicle. The gross capacity of the battery is 100 kWh. The battery forms the central component of the PPE.
Porsche fitted the new Macan with the latest generation of permanently-excited PSM electric motors on their front and rear axles.
With Launch Control on, the Macan 4 produces up to 408 hp and 650 Nm while the Macan Turbo boasts up to 639 hp and a staggering 1,130 Nm. The power ratings allow the Macan 4 to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, and the Macan Turbo to achieve the same in just 3.3 seconds. Top speed of the models are 220 km/h and 260 km/h, respectively.
The DC charging output for the new Macan is up to 270 kW. On a suitable fast-charging station, the model’s battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in about 20 minutes. AC charging at up to 11 kW is possible at household wall boxes.
The new 100% electric Macan can recuperate up to 240 kW of energy via the electric motors while driving. This helps in allowing the model a combined driving range (WLTP) of up to 613 kilometers for the Macan 4, and up to 591 kilometers for the Macan Turbo.
Thanks to sharper lines and the proportions of the Porsche design DNA, the new Macan looks sportier than ever, further emphasized by a coupe-like silhouette. The design communicates the model’s quintessential Porsche driving dynamics and steering feel.
Fitted to the new 100% electric Macan is an air suspension system with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) electronic damping control. Two-valve dampers allow for a wider spectrum between comfort and performance.
With all its new features, the Macan remains the sports car in its segment — even in electric form.
