The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the woman in a viral clip for not wearing a helmet while on board a motorcycle.
In a Facebook post, the LTO said that although they empathize with what the woman is going through, their office must underscore the importance of wearing a helmet.
The agency said that aside from the driver, the passengers also violated the traffic regulation.
However, the LTO clarified that that they will only summon the passengers to remind them of the traffic rules. The agency said that the driver will be held liable for failing to provide helmets to the passengers and for exceeding the motorcycle’s capacity.
According to Section 3 of Republic Act No. 10054, “all motorcycle riders, including drivers and back riders, shall at all times wear standard protective motorcycle helmets while driving, whether long or short drives, in any type of road and highway.”
A video of a woman named Rosemarie Peñamora Tan went viral on social media on Sunday. The clip showed her and two of her companions singing while riding a motorcycle. However, all of them were not wearing helmets.
The clip has already garnered almost 700,000 views on Facebook as of this posting.
