Kumail Nanjiani’s ‘Eternals’ hero struggles to find parking spot in new Lexus ad

Even a member of Marvel’s Eternals is not spared from one of the perennial problems of every motorist: finding a safe parking spot.

In a hilarious new promo directed by Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s Joe and Anthony Russo, Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo encounters his fair share of parking issues before joining the Eternals‘ epic battle against the Deviants.

Lexus’ two-minute marketing campaign, titled “Parking Spot,” begins with Nanjiani’s Kingo trying to find a safe parking spot while behind the wheel of a new Lexus IS 500 F sports sedan.

In the clip, we see Kingo’s attempts to steer clear from falling debris while putting work on his prized sedan. While looking for a parking spot, Kingo then receives a text message from Sersi, warning him that the Deviants have arrived. “Oh, I’m almost there. Just got to park this baby,” Kingo replies.

While Earth is probably on the verge of destruction, Kingo eventually spots a parking space by the side of the road but decides to look for other parking spots after seeing a burning projectile hurtle towards a vehicle.

As Kingo continues his hunt, he then answers a call from Sprite, who then reminds him that “the Avengers wouldn’t be late.” A few moments later, Kingo sees another parking spot beside a tree. But this time around though, Kingo rushes back to his Lexus after realizing that a flock of pigeons are ready to drop poop on his sedan.

When Kingo receives another call from Sprite, the promo video then proceeds to show the immortal being dealing with various pet peeves of motorists including slow-moving drivers, those who double-park in parking spots, and rogue shopping carts.

“There’s a natural synergy between Marvel Studios and Lexus,” Lexus vice president of marketing Vinay Shahani said. “We both go all-in to deliver amazing experiences. We’re incredibly excited to team up with Marvel Studios’ ‘Eternals’ to showcase our very own superhero, the first-ever V8 IS 500, which ushers in a new Lexus F SPORT Performance Line.”

“We’re thrilled to partner with Lexus to give viewers an early look at one of our new heroes, Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo, in action. Lexus’ creative campaign is appropriately epic, delivering the same combination of action, spectacle and humor our fans will see in the film,” said Mindy Hamilton, SVP, Global Partnership Marketing at Marvel Studios.

Directed by Oscar-winner Chloé Zhao, Eternals features a new group of superheroes who have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years. However, the immortal beings decide to break their vow to not interfere with any human conflict following the Deviants’ presence on Earth.

Aside from Nanjiani, the cast of Marvel’s Eternals also include Gemma Chan (Sersi), Kit Harrington (Dane Whitman), Lia McHugh (Sprite), Don Lee (Gigamesh), Angelina Jolie (Thena), Salma Hayek (Ajak), Richard Madden (Ikaris), Lauren Ridloff (Makkari), Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos), and Barry Keoghan (Druig).

Marvel’s Eternals is slated to premiere in theaters on Nov. 5, 2021.
