176 new Toyota technicians graduate from TMP Tech

TOYOTA Motor Philippines School of Technology (TMP Tech), a premiere automotive technical-vocational (tech-voc) institution, recently held commencement exercises for Batch 12 and 13 – Class of 2021 and 2022, with 176 graduates of the 2-year Toyota General Job (GJ) Automotive Servicing Course. Following strict health and safety protocols, the school held the graduation rites at Toyota Motor Philippines’ industrial complex in Santa Rosa City, Laguna.

TMP Tech’s GJ Course follows the prescribed curriculum of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority or TESDA. Under this course, students undertake TESDA National Certification levels 1 to 4, equivalent to Pro-Technician level of the globally known Toyota Education Automotive Mastery for the 21st century (TEAM21) training program.

Students further their competencies through an immersive on-the-job training at local Toyota dealerships. TMP Tech has also successfully adapted with the ‘new normal’ of tech-voc training by applying blended learning modality for language courses and theoretical courses such as Toyota-specific principles and global standards.

During the graduation ceremony, the event’s Guest of Honor, TESDA (Region IV-A) regional director Toni June Tamayo, cited TMP Tech’s resilience during the pandemic and its efforts to continue the mission to provide Filipino youth with quality automotive education.

“Last year, TESDA recognized TMP Tech for being a ‘Center for Technical Proficiency’ and the sole recipient of TESDA’s ‘Two Stars Award’ among tech-voc institutions nationwide,” Dir. Tamayo said in his keynote speech.

TMP Tech’s strong industry linkages support the institution to adopt new methodologies and upgrade its level of training. Recently, the school collaborated with TMP Foundation and Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) for the future conduct and hosting of technical professional training for the representatives of over 20 CPSC-member countries including TMP Tech trainers. Through this partnership, the school also supports the further development of Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) systems in the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific region.

TMP Tech was jointly founded by Toyota Motor Corporation honorary chairman Dr. Shoichiro Toyota and TMP founding chairman Dr. George S.K. Ty to become a world-class training hub that develops Filipino youth to become highly competent automotive professionals for the Toyota Network. Since it started operations in 2013, the school has produced over 1,500 graduates from various automotive courses.
