Design analysis: What makes the MG GT stand out in a sea of sedans?

The new MG GT is a sports sedan that offers a bold and sporty alternative in the sedan segment. It’s the third sedan from the brand, offered in between the MG 5 and the MG 6. Inspired by MG’s rich and storied sporting heritage, the MG GT’s sporty appeal has an emphatic effect to young and adventurous customers with its “Live to Defy” philosophy.

The GT is the first sports sedan from the brand to feature the third generation of the MG  family’s design language, which reflects a sportier and more aggressive look. The exterior is dominated by the black ‘Digital Flaming Grille’ that has flame-like slats and sets a new benchmark for its segment. The bold, pressed-down bonnet shape and rear inverted pattern further emphasize its sporty look, while the chrome trim and tomahawk-style alloy wheels complete the design.

Key exterior highlights include slim LED headlights, a front bumper with large air intakes, a sloping roofline, 17-inch alloy wheels, an upturned ducktail accent at the end, and large exhaust pipes. The MG GT is 4,675 mm long, 1,842 mm wide, and 1,480 mm tall with a 2,680 mm long wheelbase – dimensions that are at par with compact sedan stalwarts.

At first glance and even on your third, the MG GT is a looker and a head-turner, especially with the LED lighting equipped all over. Whether you’re looking at it from the back, at the front, and even on its side profile, the MG GT doesn’t fail to impress.

Bright, highly visible, 3D LED racetrack tailllamps and a ducktail accent accentuate the MG GT’s rear end and fastback body design.

Underneath the sleek sheet metal is a high-density steel cage body crafted together with modern laser brazing, ensuring a rigid and safe chassis and body frame.

The interior of the 2022 MG GT features two-tone leather seats with 3D patterns and red stitching, a 3D diamond-designed console panel, and a flat-bottom leather steering wheel with paddle shifters. It’s an ensemble of design that makes the cabin feel elegant and easy on the eyes. The attention to detail employed in the styling are evident; even the rear-view mirror is frameless and the materials used are top-notch.

In terms of livability, the seats are comfortable and provide abundant legroom. The spacious cabin offers also ample headroom, even in the back where the roofline swoops low. The car can accommodate up to five adults (though we recommend four for maximum comfort) and has 401 liters of cargo space that can be increased with the 60/40 split-folding rear seats down.

The GT’s pretty techie, too. It’s equipped with advanced technologies such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 10.1-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system that is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other interior features include a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, keyless entry, push-button start, automatic air conditioning with a rear AC vent, electric sunroof, multiple USB ports, and cruise control.

The MG GT is equipped with Active Safety Driver Assist Systems including Forward Collision Warning (FCW,) Intelligent High Beam Control (IHC,) Blind Spot Detection (BSD,) Lane Departure Warning (LDW,) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA.)

The MG GT is an ideal choice for those who are looking for a sporty car that delivers strong performance, and an exciting driving experience, all at an attainable price point. With its bold and sporty design, advanced technologies, and comfortable and spacious interior, the MG GT offers great value for money and is set to generate great reception from discerning car buyers.
