Bentley Continental GT takes ‘Best Car’ title

Top award from German publication Auto Motor und Sport adds to the Grand Tourer’s list of prestigious recognitions

Following close on the heels of claiming Car of the Year honors at a program organized by a leading luxury publication, Bentley’s definitive Grand Tourer has again clinched a prestigious award.

Named as “Best Car” among luxury models in a poll conducted by authoritative German magazine Auto Motor und Sport is the class-leading Bentley Continental GT, which won the award for the second year in a row. The ultra-luxurious model, chosen by more than 101,000 readers of the highly-influential title, shone in a field of 422 cars that competed across 12 categories.

The Bentley Continental GT S range earlier claimed the top honors at a prominent competition for luxury vehicles presented by Robb Report. A jury composed of the esteemed publication’s editors and over 175 readers evaluated the ultimate grand touring model in several categories, including looks, performance, luxury, comfort and utility, as well as in intangible tiebreakers such as “wow factor” and collectability.

Powerful and refined, the Bentley Continental GT created the modern, luxury Grand Tourer segment when it was launched in 2003, blending spirited performance with cutting-edge technology and handcrafted elegance. The latest third-generation model, a car that so impressed Auto Motor und Sport readers at the 47th edition of the magazine’s awards, offers a unique breadth of touring ability.

With a handcrafted cabin that seamlessly integrates natural materials with advanced, driver-focused features, plus a choice of powerful yet refined V8 and W12 engines, the latest Continental GT is the most dynamic road car Bentley has ever built.

“We are honored to receive this award from the readers of Auto Motor und Sport magazine, one of the world’s most respected authorities on cars. Over the past 20 years, we have constantly developed the Continental GT and even today, in its third generation, it still defines the segment it first created. To win this award in the luxury class for the second consecutive year makes us extremely proud,” said Bentley Motors Chairman and CEO Adrian Hallmark during the awards ceremony held in Stuttgart, Germany.

Bentley in 2022 delivered 15,174 cars, the first time it has sold more than 15,000 vehicles in a single year. The record-breaking total was a four-percent increase on 2021, with best-ever sales posted in Europe as the region closed the year with deliveries of 2,809 cars — an 11-percent rise from 2021. Driving this performance was the Bentley Continental GT, which in Europe accounted for nearly half of the result.
