Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) has given Manila International Auto Show attendees a taste of the future with the preview of the IONIQ 6 electric sedan.
Hyundai has set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045 through five main areas of interest, with electrification as its top priority. In line with this, the company has developed its first dedicated line of purely electric vehicles, the IONIQ sub-brand, to encourage a sustainable lifestyle and support customers’ transition to eco-friendly driving.
“The IONIQ sub-brand was developed to bring about and encourage a sustainable lifestyle through an elevated eco-friendly experience. It was designed to support, if not jumpstart, our customer’s journey to go green. Our flagship model, the IONIQ 5, became a validation that we are on the right track. It has garnered numerous recognitions, paving the way for our newest mid-size electric sedan. The IONIQ 6 also has just become a triple-crown winner during the recently concluded 2023 World Car of The Year Awards which made us even more excited to give visitors a chance to see it physically at the Manila International Auto Show,” said Mr. Dongwook Lee, President of HMPH.
The IONIQ 6 follows the IONIQ 5’s design DNA but has its own unique typology. The exterior features the brand’s signature 3D parametric pixel lights, complemented by glass-like, transparent textures. The cabin boasts a cozy, cocoon-like shape but still manages to be class-leading in passenger comfort and cargo space due to its long wheelbase. The interior features interactive features through the integrated digital cluster, infotainment screen, and action-sensitive ambient lights.
The IONIQ 6 is built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which provides better stability and handling, and added safety. Equipped with Hyundai’s proprietary driver-assistance system, including Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2), and Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2), among others. It supports both 400V and 800V charging, boosting battery life from 10% to 80% in under 18 minutes.
The IONIQ 6 has a top speed of 185 kilometers per hour and can reach 100 kilometers per hour in 5.1 seconds. With an all-electric range of 545 kilometers per hour, it is optimized to minimize air resistance and drag for unparalleled EV performance.
The IONIQ 6 is set to be launched in the middle of the year for around P4,000,000. Exact specifications for the Philippine-spec model will be available at launch.
The IONIQ 5 is already on offer for P3,068,000 for the 2WD Standard Range and P3,698,000 for the 2WD Long Range. Both the IONIQ 6 and IONIQ 5 come with a 5-year or 200,000-km vehicle warranty, an 8-year or 160,000-km battery warranty, and free Preventive Maintenance Service (PMS) for 5 years or 75,000-km, whichever comes first.
In an effort to solidify confidence and peace of mind among owners, HMPH will soon launch a Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) service, utilizing the IONIQ 5 for mobile charging. There will be a hotline that Filipino customers can call for assistance, with the charging process taking 4 minutes, producing 7KWh, or about 20 to 30 kilometers of extra range.
“We take pride in our evolution from a car manufacturer to a mobility service provider. So please expect us to come up with more innovative solutions and initiatives such as these that make lives easier and more meaningful for our Filipino customers and the community at large,” Mr. Lee added.
