Geely GX3 Pro: Challenging the subcompact SUV establishment

Geely Philippines has officially marked its entry into the Philippine subcompact crossover market with the highly anticipated launch of the 2024 Geely GX3 Pro.

Revealed to the public for the first time at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), the GX3 Pro is poised to carve its niche as the smallest and most affordable offering in Geely’s lineup.

Boasting two distinct variants—the entry-level S and the top-spec Comfort—the GX3 Pro takes on the challenge of competing against established contenders in the subcompact crossover category, including the Toyota Raize and the Kia Stonic.

With the Raize being the top-seller in this segment, the Chinese automaker wants to disrupt its dominance—much like how it disrupted the crossover segment when it brought in the Coolray a few years ago.

Up front, the GX3 Pro’s allure has a striking exterior design that mirrors its larger sibling, the Geely Coolray. The front fascia features sharp LED daytime running lamps accentuating the sweptback headlamps, a slatted grille, and an intricately designed lower front bumper with a functional vent.

Black plastic claddings adorn the sides, while character lines and 16-inch alloy wheels provide visual dynamism. Roof rails and power side mirrors come standard on both variants, adding to the vehicle’s utility and style.

The rear of the GX3 Pro showcases LED taillights with integrated U-shaped turn signal lamps. A roof-mounted spoiler and a faux diffuser contribute to the vehicle’s sporty and modern appearance.

Measuring 4,005mm in length, 1,760mm in width, and 1,575mm in height, the GX3 Pro maintains a compact footprint while providing ample space for urban adventures. A wheelbase of 2,480mm and a ground clearance of 185mm ensure stability and versatility on various terrains.

Stepping inside, the GX3 Pro seats five occupants, including the driver. An unexpected premium touch in this segment, the vehicle features a sunroof, infusing the cabin with natural light.

The interior boasts a 3.5-inch meter cluster, a leather-wrapped flat-bottom tilt-adjustable steering wheel (Comfort variant), a six-way adjustable driver’s seat, and an electronic air-conditioning system. Both trims are equipped with PVC seat covers, ensuring a blend of comfort and style.

Cargo capacity is a practical 400 liters, expandable by folding the rear seats in a 60:40 split configuration.

Safety and technology are key highlights of the GX3 Pro. Standard safety features encompass dual front airbags, ABS, a reverse camera, rear parking sensors, tire pressure monitoring, and central locking. The Comfort variant takes safety a step further with the inclusion of traction control, Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, cruise control, and an engine immobilizer.

The infotainment system showcases an 8-inch touchscreen, complemented by a 6-piece speaker system (Comfort variant) and smartphone connectivity via the CarbitLink app.

Under the hood, the GX3 Pro houses a 1.5-liter DOHC gasoline engine that generates a peak power output of 102 hp and 142 Nm of torque. Transmission options cater to both driving preferences, with the entry-level S trim featuring a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the Comfort model boasts a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

A MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion beam rear suspension ensure a balanced and comfortable ride, while disc brakes on all four wheels offer dependable stopping power.

As for pricing, the 2024 Geely GX3 Pro’s entry-level S variant starts at Php 778,000, while the top-spec Comfort trim comes in at Php 878,000. However, to commemorate its launch, Geely is offering a substantial discount of Php 80,000 for both variants, resulting in an attractive introductory price of Php 698,000 for the GX3 S and Php 798,000 for the GX3 Comfort.

In line with Geely’s commitment to customer satisfaction, the GX3 Pro is bundled with Geely PH’s G-Serv+ after-sales service package. This comprehensive package includes a five-year or 150,000 km (whichever comes first) warranty and one-year roadside assistance, reinforcing the brand’s dedication to providing a worry-free ownership experience.

The arrival of the 2024 Geely GX3 Pro in the Philippines heralds a new era for the subcompact crossover segment, promising a blend of style, technology, safety, and affordability that is set to resonate with Filipino consumers.
