The scheduled closure of a portion of the Marcos Highway Bridge in Marikina City has been moved to May 11, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced.

According to a report by The STAR, the decision to suspend the planned closure came after a discussion between the MMDA, Department of Public Works and Highways, and the private contractors handling the rehabilitation project.

The MMDA found out during an ocular inspection that both the commuters and motorists would be negatively impacted by the closure because apart from failing to install traffic signs to guide motorists coming from Libis to Katipunan in Quezon City, the project contractors have also yet to designate an intersection for large vehicles crossing the area and a portion at the median island for eastbound vehicles going from Cubao to Antipolo.

Contractors were given one week by the MMDA to complete its preparations for the scheduled closure to reduce the inconvenience it could cause to motorists.

MMDA general manager Jose Garcia earlier said that a portion of the bridge would be closed to traffic for four months.
