This may be your last chance for an aggressive Civic Type R

Honda has announced that it’s bringing in the 2021 Honda Civic TypeR in two new colors – Racing Blue and Sonic Gray in addition to the standard Championship White. It has updated design and new mechanical features that will make it more dependable off the track, should you choose to make it your casual steed.

Starting with the exterior, it has a new front grille that has a 13% larger intake area. In combination with the updated radiator core, it decreases coolant temperature by up to 10% which is beneficial during high-performance runs.

Inside is the same steering wheel but is now wrapped in Alcantara leather while the shift knob is changed from the circular to a teardrop style in the same metal finish. They’ve also updated the head unit and climate controls by putting additional tactile buttons for easier no-look changes while driving.

The new Honda Civic Type R still runs on the same 2.0L VTEC TURBO that produces 306 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. It’s now equipped with Active Sound Control that works with the car’s sound system in order to enhance the engine sound inside the cabin.

There’s also improvements in the suspension and braking department for better response and handling. The Adaptive Damper System’s control software was upgraded for faster road condition evaluation while the Type R now has two-piece floating 350mm floating front discs and new brake pads.

Apart from the standard safety features, the new Civic Type R now has Honda Sensing. This includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keeping Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, and Lane Departure Warning.

The 2021 Honda Civic Type R is available in three colors – Championship White, new Sonic Gray and a new Racing Blue color. It will retail for P3,210,000. Honda Cars Philippines is offering a P100,000 discount up to September 30, 2021.

If you fancy the current look of the Type R, better get one now. Historically, the Civic Type R’s design only builds upon the existing Civic of its time, lately leaning towards hatchbacks. With the toned down look of the new Civic sedan and hatchback, it won’t be far off to say that the next Type R would be a lot less aggressive.
