Geely Philippines just joined the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers Philippines (CAMPI) and with that, they’ll be making their first appearance at the 2022 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS). Things are a bit more special for the brand as it starts their celebration of their 3rd anniversary in the country.
Geely made their debut in the country back in September 25, 2019 with the Coolray. Since then, the brand has sold over 10,000 cars and even broke through the top 10 bestselling brands in the industry last year. They just opened their 33rd dealership last week and so far this year, they’ve already surpassed their 2021 total sales. We shouldn’t be surprised then if they get higher in the rankings at the end of the year.
Gracing their stage at their first PIMS appearance are their latest models—the Geely Coolray SE, Okavango Urban Plus, and the Emgrand Premium.
The Geely Coolray SE is the latest iteration of their hit crossover that sold over 3,000 units in 2021. It’s very recognizable from the previous model thanks to its gray ‘brace’ that occupies most of the front end and a new mesh grille that houses the Geely logo. The back also received a touch up with its new bumper and spoiler designs.
Aside from those, other changes in the Coolray SE are subtle. The side mirrors now have a heating function, new shifter that looks similar to the Emgrand though it still maintains the joystick orientation, while the features introduced in the previous ‘Sport Limited’ are now standard. This includes the ventilated seats and powered tailgate with angle memory function.
Another big contributor to Geely’s ascent into the top 10 last year was the Okavango MPV. It was launched in late 2020 but early 2021 saw the addition of a new variant – the Urban Plus model which you can see in this year’s PIMS. It has a panoramic sunroof, ADB Matrix LED headlights, auto folding side mirrors with heating function, and a powered tailgate.
The cabin is just as impressive as the exterior. There’s a fully digital gauge cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, 3-zone climate control, and 7 segmented seats for a more comfortable riding experience.
Capping Geely’s debut in PIMS is the Emgrand Premium sedan. Their latest segment breaker is sized like a compact sedan, but is priced one segment lower coming under a million pesos. It stands out in its category thanks to its styling and upmarket amenities. The top of the line model comes with LED headlights, moonroof, and an LED taillight assembly with lightbar running across the trunk.
Inside, the Emgrand Premium backs up its name with its amenities. It boasts a sunroof, white leather with blue suede upholstery, full digital gauge cluster, 8-inch touchscreen, electronic parking brake with auto brake hold, powered driver’s seat, and cruise control.
See Geely at the Main Hall of the 8th Philippine International Auto Show happening from September 15 to 18 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. The show runs from 10am to 8pm.
