Four persons were burned to death as their car crashed into a canal and burst into flames along the main Roxas Highway in Clark Freeport, Pampanga at about 3:15 a.m. last Tuesday.
Mabalacat City police, which has jurisdiction over the accident site, said the car was a white Hyundai Accent with conduction sticker No. KOF825, and was reported to have entered Clark’s main gate in Barangay Balibago in Angeles City and cruised through Roxas highway. The vehicle, apparently at high speed, plunged into a canal and exploded before reaching the Clark exit towards the property’s so-called Korea Town .
“Four persons inside the vehicle were burned which resulted (in) their instantaneous death,” the police report said.
As of yesterday morning, the four remained unidentified as items that could provide information on their identities were badly burned.
The Clark Development Corp., the government firm which manages this freeport, has imposed a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour at the Roxas highway here, but this limit has been noted to be frequently violated by motorists with impunity despite a speed-monitoring camera the CDC had installed.
Sports cars, at times driven by Koreans from their nearby community, have been noted among those going drive dangerously fast along Clark’s main highway.
