Electric Twins: Volvo Launches C40, XC40 Recharge

Volvo Philippines has finally released its first fully electric vehicles: the new Volvo C40 and the Volvo XC40 Recharge. Playfully touted as Volvo’s “twin” models, these battery electric (BEV) Volvos follow on the premium Swedish brand’s pioneering mindset that started with the country’s first Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles in 2021.

“Our pure electric Volvo C40 and XC40 Recharge are siblings that carry the trademark Volvo DNA of safety, quality, and sustainability. Yet even identical twins still have different personalities, as does our all-electric duo. One thing for sure is that both Volvos are designed to provide our customers with the freedom to move in a personal, sustainable, and safe way,” shares Volvo PH President and CEO, Atty. Alberto B. Arcilla.

Both the Volvo C40 and XC40 Recharge ride on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA). Both also have the same twin-motor powertrain (408 horsepower, 660 Nm) giving it all-wheel drive. In terms of performance, the C40 does the century sprint in 4.7 seconds, while the XC40 does the same in 4.9 seconds. Range-wise, the C40 tops out at 549 kilometers, while the XC40 does 537 kilometers. Both models also offer support for DC fast charging topping up the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 27 minutes.

The duo features Volvo’s contemporary Scandinavian design and uses more sustainable materials than ever before. The C40 offers a coupe-like roofline while also introducing the new “face” for electric Volvos. Its headlights feature pixel technology. A frameless grille (as well as a new front bumper) keep the XC40 in lockstep with the C40 in terms of design.

Buyers also get premium leather-free upholstery interiors in the pure electric C40 and XC40 Recharge, as well as a panoramic sunroof, advanced PM 2.5 air purifier system, a 600-watt 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and an infotainment system powered by Google and its Android Automotive operating system.

The XC40 and C40 also come equipped with Volvo’s advanced driver assistance technology.

“The Volvo pure electric C40 and XC40 Recharge models will pave the way for more people to enjoy the full electric mobility experience. Both models are superior in terms of power, range, charging speed, and battery capacity. Even more enticing is that all these features are tied up in the most competitive ownership package in the whole industry,” states Chris Lee Yu, Marketing Director of Volvo Philippines.

These all-new, all-electric Volvo models come at a special introductory price of P 3,990,000 for the XC40 Recharge and P 4,190,000 for the C40 Recharge. Even more enticing is a Volvo Ownership Package that includes an 8-year battery warranty, 5-year roadside assistance, a 3-year comprehensive car warranty, 1 wall box charger, and unlimited digital update service.
