Road to 20: Electrification strategy powers Porsche’s global success

Porsche continues to fulfill the dreams of customers as shown by strong delivery figures and the brand’s full order books during fiscal year 2022. Worldwide, the sports car manufacturer increased its deliveries to 309,884 vehicles last year, a 3% rise amid global challenges.

Key to the growth is Porsche’s electrification strategy, spearheaded by the 100% electric-powered Porsche Taycan. Demand for the model remains strong, demonstrated by the 34,801 units delivered to customers worldwide last year.

The success charges up Porsche’s electric drive forward, with the brand all set to release the all-new 100% electric Porsche Macan in 2024. Also planned in the middle of the decade is the introduction of 100% electric Porsche 718 models. A 100% electric Porsche Cayenne is scheduled next. The fourth generation of the SUV will underline Porsche’s goal of delivering more than 80% of its new vehicles as 100% electric models by 2030.

Porsche is also planning to expand its product portfolio upwards with a 100% electric SUV positioned above the Cayenne. This new vehicle concept is designed to offer strong performance and automated driving functions with the typical Porsche flyline, along with a completely new cabin experience. The upcoming model will be based on the SSP Sport platform being developed, and is seen to strengthen Porsche’s unique sport-luxury positioning, particularly in China and the US.

Road to 20

Porsche in 2023 started its ambitious Road to 20 program with which the brand aims to achieve a 20% operating return on sales in the long term. The move, seen to make Porsche even more resilient, will review the company’s product range, pricing and cost structure. It comes after Porsche posted the biggest IPO in Europe, in terms of market capitalization, last year.

In 2022, Porsche delivered 18,203 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman models; 40,410 Porsche 911 sports cars; and 34,142 Panamera sport sedans worldwide. The brand’s SUVs remained the most popular with customers, with 95,604 Porsche Cayenne models sold, and 86,724 units of the Porsche Macan delivered.

This year, Porsche has more significant reasons to celebrate. The company marks the 75th anniversary of Porsche, as well as the 60th year since the Porsche 911 was launched. In June, the sports car manufacturer returns to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Porsche will fight for overall victory in the 100th anniversary of the classic race with the newly developed Porsche 963.
