Despite the difficulties that this year imposed on the automotive industry, there’s still a ray of hope coming with the emergence of new players in the local market. The latest of which is the Chinese car brand Changan, exclusively distributed by Changan Motor Philippines, Inc. (CMPI).
Of note, CMPI is led by president and CEO Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo, also the president and CEO of Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), the official distributor of Hyundai cars in the Philippines.
For this year’s MIAS Wired, Changan showcases its whole lineup in the virtual auto show. While most new companies would start with a single model, CMPI begs to differ with a five-strong offering that ranges from a subcompact sedan to a midsize crossover utility vehicle.
The Changan Alsvin is the smallest of the automaker’s lineup — a subcompact sedan that’s aimed to challenge veteran players like the Toyota Vios and Honda City. Despite its affordable price tag that starts just above half-a-million pesos, the Alsvin already offers premium features such as a sunroof, cruise control, blind-spot monitor, rear cameras, tire pressure monitoring system, and leather seats.
As a subcompact crossover offering, Changan has the CS35 Plus. The small SUV starts below P1-million but will come with niceties such as panoramic sunroof, engine remote start, passive keyless entry, blind-spot and rear cameras, 10-inch touchscreen display, and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).
A size above the CS35 Plus, the Changan CS75 Plus adopts all of the features found in the smaller crossover and adds a bigger 12-inch touchscreen, a seven-inch digital cluster, triple drive modes, and six airbags. The bigger crossover warrants a starting price of around P1.2-million.
The biggest ute of the bunch is the Changan CS95, which competes in the midsize SUV segment but built with unibody construction. Apart from its bevy of high-tech features, the CS95 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged GDI engine that’s paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. It has a starting price that lurks around the P2.1-million mark.
Last, but definitely not the least, Changan is also offering an electric vehicle in its lineup, albeit by indent-order basis only. Called the Eado EV460, the EV boasts an emission-free drive for 550 kilometers on a single charge.
All Changan vehicles come with a five-year, 150,000-kilometer warranty and free Preventive Maintenance Services (PMS) for the first year, or up to 20,000 kilometers. Each model completed 4 million kilometers in test mileage plus 4,500 tests in 15 areas including strength, safety, and environment.
