Declaring that electromobility happens now in the Philippines is the Porsche #SoulElectrified exhibit that features the fully electric Porsche Taycan. Set to run from June 18-24 at SM Aura Premier in Bonifacio Global City, the event throws a spotlight at sustainable electric-powered mobility and its benefits to society and the environment, as well as the Taycan’s role in ushering in this progression in the country.
The Porsche #SoulElectrified exhibit will present informative videos and other materials explaining in simple terms the advanced technologies of the Taycan. A charger that is plugged into a conventional electrical socket will be installed in the display area to highlight how easy it is to charge the Taycan. Product presentations will also be held so the public can see in closer detail the Taycan’s numerous features.
The Taycan debuted in the Philippines in the last quarter of 2020. To date, Porsche is the only global brand to sell in any relevant number a fully electric car in the country.
Porsche Philippines has so far invested more than P150 million to support the Taycan’s domestic operation. The amount includes outlay for the construction of advanced charging facilities; acquisition of original Porsche or manufacturer-approved equipment and tools specific to servicing electric vehicles; building up an inventory of genuine Taycan parts; and expenses for other necessary infrastructure.
Along with these, Porsche Philippines has also invested in training its personnel, with the training conducted by Porsche AG. The technicians are certified by Porsche AG as adhering to Gold-level standards—the highest awarded by the factory. This makes them properly equipped to service specialized vehicles like the Taycan, as well as qualified to operate the advanced software requirements of the fully electric model.
Porsche studies reveal the majority of Taycan owners charge their cars overnight at home, reflecting other global research data which shows that around 80% of electric vehicle owners use residential-charging solutions because of the convenience these offer.
Allowing the new Taycan to be comfortably charged at home is the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect, which comes as standard.
With an 800-volt system instead of the usual 400 volts for electric vehicles, the new Taycan can be charged from 5% to 80% in under 30 minutes when using a 175 kW DC charger. When fully charged, driving range can go as high up to 431 kilometers under ideal conditions (according to WLTP standards).
Like all Taycan variants, the new model has two charging ports located in each of its front fenders. To be plugged into either of the ports is the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect, which is currently set up locally for up to 11 kW but in the future will be available for up to 22 kW of alternating current (AC). The port on the right fender can be used for direct current (DC) charging. Both charging ports are covered by electrically operated doors that slide open or close via a simple hand gesture, a special feature specified by Porsche Philippines.
The new Taycan has a Permanent magnet Synchronous Motor (PSM) on the rear axle. Some of its key features are 20-inch Taycan Turbo Aero wheels, black anodized brake calipers, LED headlights, six-piston brakes in front and four-piston brakes at the rear, the Porsche 4D Chassis Control that analyzes and synchronizes all chassis systems in real time, adaptive air suspension with three-chamber technology, and the Porsche Active Suspension Management electronic damper control system.
Defining the new Taycan’s cabin is a 4+1 seating layout, a 16.8-inch free-standing curved instrument cluster, a central 10.9-inch infotainment display, and another display for the front passenger—an optional equipment specified by Porsche Philippines.
Also included among the numerous cabin features are comfort seats in front with 14-way power adjustment; Bose Surround Sound; four-zone climate control; Park Assist with a reverse camera; an ionizer to clean up the air in the cabin; ambient lighting; and Porsche Electric Sport Sound, which modulates the natural sound emitted by the car’s electric powertrain. Located in front and the rear of the Taycan are spacious luggage compartments.
Globally, the Taycan has contributed to the Porsche’s performance this year as it registered the biggest spike in consumer demand among all Porsche models. Worldwide deliveries of the Taycan in the first quarter of the year have already reached almost half of those recorded during the entire of 2020.
