Tesla Motors made sure that the first official units would have a place to charge and where else to put it other than in front of their first home in the country. The first Tesla Supercharging Station in the Philippines is located in Basement 2 of Uptown Mall in BGC, which is just across the Tesla Experience Centre in Uptown Parade. The facility has a clear label and 4 slots to accommodate Tesla EVs.
The event was graced by officials of the Department of Energy, Megaworld Vice President and Head for Mall Operations Support Department Rene Amobit, and Tesla Regional Director Isabel Fan.
The Superchargers are the V3 version with a maximum output of 250kW that can give a Tesla up to 120 km in just 5 minutes of charging. That is like more than 7 trips between Uptown Mall and SM North in Quezon City.
The chargers will be on a pay-per-use basis immediately priced at PHP 19 per kilowatt, the lowest among other fast chargers in the country right now. Tesla estimates that the base model Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive with 513 km of range only needs PHP 1,140 for a full charge – significantly lower than a full tank of gas of an equivalent sized sedan.
Tesla cars can detect the charger and will automatically flip open the plug cover. Users only need to use the Tesla Mobile App to see availability, monitor charging status, and get notified when ready to go. Payment is automatic via Tesla App payment methods.
“Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. Tesla enables the use of electric vehicles by building charging infrastructure around people’s lifestyles. Tesla will keep expanding our charging network to create a seamless EV experience in the Philippines. We will collaborate closely in the near future” said Fan.
During the launch of Tesla in the Philippines last month, Fan already said that other charging stations are already in progress in different locations across the metro apart from the first Supercharging station in Uptown Mall.
