Travel time from Manila to Baguio City is expected to be reduced from six hours to just three hours following the completion of the last segment of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) on Wednesday.
During the opening ceremony, Public Works and Highways Sec. Mark Villar said in a prepared speech that the expressway will also help boost economic development as the country recovers from the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
“This project is just one of the many key priority projects and infrastructure flagship projects of President Duterte under Build, Build, Build,” Villar said.
With the opening of TPLEX’s last segment, travel time between Tarlac City and Rosario will be cut down from 3.5 hours to just an hour. Around 20,000 vehicles are expected to benefit from the reduced travel time along the expressway.
The TPLEX’s 11-kilometer Section 3B, which spans from Pozorrubio in Pangasinan to Rosario in La Union, is part of the 88.85-kilometer toll road that links Northern Luzon and Metro Manila. The construction of the final segment of TPLEX started in April 2018 and was completed in a span of 28 months.
